The planning of The Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 is centered on the success of its most fundamental element: the sports. OnePlan is being used by 46 functional areas at the Organizing Committee, including the Sport and National Committee Services (NCS) functional areas.

In this latest episode of Behind the Planwe learn how these teams are planning the events and venues in OnePlan in partnership with every sport’s international federation, and providing access to the venue plans for the 204 National Olympic Committees and 180 National Paralympic Committees, plus Individual Neutral Athletes, Neutral Paralympic Athletes and Olympic and Paralympic Refugees Teams around the world.

Reducing the risks for planning sports events at major venues

The Sport functional area is responsible for every sport taking place at the next Games to be planned accurately and delivered efficiently. It uses OnePlan extensively for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 including for competition venues, fan zones, different accreditation areas and more.

“OnePlan is a huge time saver for us. It allows us to be totally aligned with the sports’ international federations.”

Erwann Derradji
Sport Services Coordinator
Paris 2024

The collaborative nature of OnePlan’s unique software means any stakeholder can access the event and venue plans. This delivers a significant risk reduction for major games planning.Erwann Derradji, Sport Services Coordinator at Paris 2024, cites this as one of the key benefits of using OnePlan: “By sharing the plans with our partners, we’re reducing the risks involved in planning sports events at major venues.”

Planning with sports’ International Federations

The key stakeholder for the Sport department are the various sports’ international federations – the governing body of every sport. Erwann says: “OnePlan allows us to be totally aligned with the sports’ international federations.”

An example of this is Invalides, where Archery and Para Archery athletes will compete. Erwann continues: “We’ve planned the layout with absolute precision in OnePlan, based on the drawings validated by World Archery, to ensure an optimal athlete and fan experience.”

Every sport has its unique setup, and with OnePlan switching between configurations is easy. This is a crucial need for planning sport events and sport presentation at venues, where many venues have multiple sessions per day for multiple sports.

“OnePlan is a huge time-saver for us,” Erwann says. “It’s easy to switch between different sports, different fields of play, for different sessions on different says, all at the touch of a button. This flexibility is vital for multi-sport events.”

Decreasing the time and money for pre-Games visits for NOCs and NPCs

These benefits are also felt by the NCS department, responsible for managing relations with the 204 National Olympic Committees, 180 National Paralympic Committees, plus Individual Neutral Athletes, Neutral Paralympic Athletes and Olympic and Paralympic Refugees Teams. The NOCs and NPCs can access VenueTwin Viewer to see different routes they can take at each venue, reducing the need for site visits before Paris 2024 starts.

“OnePlan significantly decreases the time and money that is typically spent for pre-Games visits to venues for Paris and future editions of the Games.”

Felix Böck
Coordinator for international relations and services to NOCs and NPCs
Paris 2024

The NOC and NPC teams from around the world can explore every venue as if they were there in person. This cuts the need for international travel and delivers an associated sustainability benefit.

Felix Böck, Coordinator for international relations and services to NOCs and NPCs, says: ” This is an innovative and sustainable solution which provides the same level of access to venue information to all NOCs and NPCs, and facilitates their planning for the Games. “

He continues: “OnePlan significantly decreases the time and money that is typically spent for pre-Games visits to venues for Paris and future editions of the Games. It’s a Games-changer!”
